Types of Autologous Bone Marrow Transplant Procedures
- Peripheral Blood Stem Cell Transplant (PBSCT): This is the most common form of autologous transplant. Stem cells are harvested from the bloodstream using apheresis, typically after stimulating the body with growth factors like G-CSF.
- Bone Marrow Harvest: In rare instances, stem cells may be extracted directly from the bone marrow through multiple aspirations. This method is less frequently employed due to its invasive nature compared to apheresis.
